St Mirren match preview
This weekend, we are back on the road as we face St Mirren at the SMISA Stadium, for the first game of the split. Both teams are coming into this game from losses. We are coming off a 3-2 loss, and the hosts are coming off a Scottish Cup semi-final 6-2 loss. We look to get back to winning ways as we now face teams around us, take as many points off them as we can and hopefully prolong the inevitable. As well as make the end of the season on a positive note.
We are coming off a 3-2 loss against Dundee United. Despite finding ourselves 1-0 at half time, we managed to get ourselves back into the game through a Lewis Smith double, in the 75th minute a corner whipped in by Ferry was headed in by Keresztes and the game was level at 2-2 heading into stoppage time. It looked like we were headed for a point however, a penalty was awarded in the 93rd minute which was converted by Sapsford. A real sucker punch after a brilliant 2nd half performance but we left Dundee empty-handed. We hope to get more points on the board and grab a positive result and build positive momentum in the split and hopefully fight to the end of the Premiership next season.
St Mirren is coming off a 6-2 loss against Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final. Celtic took the lead very early on in the 1st minute through Maeda. It got worse for the Saints as they conceded again just before half-time as Ralston extended their lead. However, the second half was better for the Saints as they got one back through Mandron in the 53rd minute. As it looked like they were going to be knocked out and miss their chance at a cup double, Mandron found the net again in the 91st minute to take the game to extra time. However, 4 goals from Celtic in quick succession during extra time saw the Saints have their chance of a cup double shattered. Our hosts have won 2 of their last 5 games, they have scored 6 in their last 5 matches and have conceded 9. Despite last weekend’s cup disappointment, the hosts league form has picked up within the last few weeks, so they’ll be looking to have a positive momentum going into the split so they can finish in a decent position.
The key players for this match will be Lewis Smith who scored a brace last time out. His runs from midfield and attacking prowess will be important to get in behind a strong back line and keep his goal scoring ability up with 3 in his last 2 games. Another key player for this match will be Joel Nouble, who has been leading the line in recent weeks. His hold-up play and his physical presence up front will be an important part in this game.
In the last 5 matches between the sides, it’s the hosts who have the upper hand, winning 2 of the 5 matches with 1 draw and 1 win for us. The last game was a 1-1 draw back in February 2026. Our last win against our opponents was a 1-0 win back in February 2024 at home. We will be looking to repeat that over our hosts, build on our positive performance last time out and turn it into 3 points to start the split with hope and belief.
